Didier Drogba Match Issue Mercurial Vapor X
So kicking of the showcase of my match worn/issue boot collection is probably my favourite pair, as a Chelsea fan this player is arguably one of the most important players in our History scoring countless important goals but none more important that the header and penalty against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final.
I was lucky enough to purchase these boots from BCboots a few years back and managed to get them signed by the big man whilst at a Nike event he was at, since then they have been the jewel of my boot collection crown.
So a little more about the boots in question, released for the 2014 World Cup the Nike Mercurial Vapor X “Hyper Punch“ was firmly overshadowed by the Superfly that released for the tournament and brought in a new wave of boot tech including the flyknit upper and mid-cut design. However not all players we’re convinced, Drogba wore the Superfly a couple of times in game before settling on the more conventional Vapor silhouette.
His pair in question have even more customisations, the standard one piece tongue on the retail pairs had a half split design which allows easier access when putting the boots on along with a more adjustable fit, there is additional stitching around the tongue as well.
The boots are huge with no sizing labels inside but should be around a UK10.5/11, this is fairly standard with boots made in Montebelluna. They also have some additional cushioning to take a bit of the sting out of Drogba’s famous knuckleball technique freekicks.
