So if you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that recently I was invited to the launch of the brand new England Home and Away kits that will be used in the upcoming European Championships in France this summer.
The venue for this event was the famous Wembley Stadium, fortunately being a Chelsea Fan I have plenty of experience going to this amazing ground but this time around this would be my only venture to Wembley this season.
I had applied to be one of the first people to see the new kit via the Nike Football (Soccer) App and I got a call from a Nike rep on the Wednesday night inviting me to the event taking place the following day, safe to say I was pretty excited that I was going to my first kit launch.
On the Thursday me and my dad turned up to the Club Wembley entrance over an hour early for our booking and were luckily allowed in to the stadium, shortly after this we actually got in to the main box Nike were using for the event much to the surprise of one of the Nike colleagues who asked what time our booking was.
We got comfortable whilst waiting for our session but before I knew it Jamie Vardy was walking around fully kitted out in the new Nike gear and then shortly after Danny Welbeck and Callum Chambers also appeared. As they were all doing their duties for Nike it was quite hard to get near any of them for a picture whilst they were escorted room to room.
This was a little disappointing but I did manage to pounce upon someone who, maybe not as important as the England National team but still a great guy nonetheless, Tubes from Soccer Am. We had a chat about the perils of being a Chelsea Fan and how we need to rebuild for the upcoming season, both agreeing with all points that each other made.
Shortly after meeting Tubes and getting a cheeky pic I saw another person I recognised and that was Joltter from Unisport Web TV. Once I grabbed my opportunity for a photo we had a decent chat about football and what he’s being getting up to over in the UK, safe to say he’s a top bloke.
Once this had passed we were informed that our session with Nike was about to begin, we briefly got shown the new Radiant Reveal pack to which I had a little look at but we were then quickly moved to the room that had the new kit, a brief walk down the corridor with some interesting lighting revealed the new kits either side of us and even more surprisingly the towering figure of Jack Butland (Stoke City No1) in the background.
We had a quick look at the kits and were told by the Nike reps the back ground story to some of the design ideas, we also had a decent chat with Jack Butland and got his thoughts on the new goalkeeping kit.
Finally, after all this we each got given a white envelope the included the new shirt, I myself got the Away shirt and fortunately Jack Butland signed the envelope to top the day off.
I’d like to take this moment to say thanks to Nike for inviting me to a great event, hopefully I’ll be going to more in the future.
